Wait, wait -- put that book down!

Yesterday Bill Clinton's book Giving hit the sales floor. I set up a nice big display of it near our main entrance, then put signs all over the table telling people to bypass the actual books and instead go directly to the cash register to purchase a voucher that will give them a spot in the autographing line on September 18; Mr. Clinton will sign copies handed to him by Secret Service agents, and only then will folks finally receive their books. It felt odd to set up a display and discourage people from buying from it -- I think the last time I did that was when Hillary Clinton did an event with us!

We've been flooded with calls and emails from all over the country. It's fun sharing the excitement with Mr. Clinton's fans and hard for us as well to have to explain that the only way they'll be able to get a voucher is by coming into the store; today I talked to a good-natured woman from Arizona who said she was game to drive here but didn't think her car would make it this far. Mr. Clinton is doing so few events, and we wish we could accommodate all of his admirers.

Right now we still have plenty of vouchers left, but I worry that many people are going to wait until the day of the event to try to get theirs and we may run out before then. If you're interested in attending Bill Clinton's signing, I urge you (or a proxy) to visit the main store before September 18 so you'll get a spot in line.
